Berry Sweet Friend

Today I am sharing a basket I made using the Strawberry Treat Box cutting file from The Cutting Cafe.  I am having so much creative fun using these files as a Design Team member.  Regina is so gracious with her sharing and the Design Team has awesome projects on the blog to inspire you.  Make sure to check it out on Wednesday and remember to leave a comment.  There will be one randomly drawn name from those comments and the prize...3 sets from the online store.  Get inspired and good luck!

I found the perfect paper in my stash to use for the basket and the strawberries.  I also used solid green for the strawberry stems and leaves.  White for the flowers.  I then sponged around the edges using Hollyhock for the strawberries, Topiary for the stems and leaves, Sunny Yellow for the flowers (all ink from Close to My Heart).

My finishing touches include black doodle lines and white dots and hash marks on the pieces.  Yellow brads were added to the center of the flowers and black bakers twine to the stems.  I filled my box with stamping goodies, just for the photo, as this treat box is just too cute to giveaway :)

United We Stand - FCCB #113

Today is Memorial Day, a day where we honor our fallen military men and women who have given their lives for our great country. Over at Fantabulous Cricut for Challenge #113 - Memorial Day we honor those military men and women by making a project using the color Red and has a flag, military symbol or poppy.

My son, Sgt. Kory Howard - 2007
My project share is a mini  6" x 6" scrapbook page of my son, Sgt. Kory Howard on his basic training graduation from Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, October 2007.  He served in the US army for 4 years, 2 tours in Iraq as a Imagery Analysis with Special Forces unit.  I am a proud mother and thankful to have him back home.

For my project I used a 6" x 6" blue base, added a 2" x 6" red pattern paper to the bottom edge.  I trimmed my photo to 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" and mounted onto 4" x 4" white cardstock.

I used my Ultimate Creative Series Sampler for the United We Stand, found on the Bonus 3 overlay, cut at 2".  This image is also found on the Stand and Salute cartridge.

My finishing touches include a yellow ribbon with three poppies from Wild Orchid Crafts, our wonderful sponsor this week.  I also, added two blue punched stars and two circle punches for a journal tag.

Thank you for stopping by today and remember our fallen military men and women.  Support our Troops!

This week our sponsor is Adams Acres and one randomly chosen winner will receive $10.00 gift certificate to spend at their store.

For my card I used the Social Butterflies printable stamp set from The Cutting Cafe, coloring the wings with my Copic markers.  I used my piercing tool to pierce the paper around the wings.  I also used my "Just Because" Cards Cricut cartridge to cut the scalloped edge, page 42 <Truck-s> cut at 5" and trimmed to fit.  I also used my piercing tool along the scallops.

Finishing touches include vellum wings, black bakers twine and a punched heart for a pop of color.

New Baby

A little late with my sharing for the Fussy and Fancy Challenge, Challenge #63, New Baby.  But here it is.  "Oh Happy Day".  My very first card as a DT member at Fussy and Fancy.  Still learning to color with my Copics, but enjoying using them.  I find coloring to be very calming.

To make this card I used pattern paper from a Miss Caroline - Dilly Dally 6 x 6 pad.  All solid card stock is from Close to My Heart.  My sentiment is from Impress and the cute little elephant is Bubba the Elephant from Memory Box.

I used the following Cricut cartridges:  George & Basic Shapes, page 108, <circle>, cutting two 2-1/2" on white.  Cut one in half.  Elegant Edges, page 65 <Flwers-s> cut at 3" on yellow.  Just Because, page 46 <Apple-s> cut two at 5-1/2" in yellow for the scallop edge.  I also cut banners and trimmed the ends with a square punch.

Finishing touches include doodles along edges, hanging the banner on a piece of red/white bakers twine and brads.  Thank you for stopping by today.

So head on over to Fussy and Fancy Challenge and check out all the inspiration from our Design Team.  I hope you will have a chance to play along with us as well.

Thanks for stopping by today.

A tribute to my mother

It is with great sadness that I write this post, as my card sharing this evening was the card I made for my mother and for The Cutting Cafe Design Team inspiration this week using the Beautiful Rose.

Mother's Day, a day of celebrating our mothers and expressing our gratitude and love, turned into a day of loss and mourning for my family.  My mother suddenly and unexpectedly passed away that afternoon.   My family is still in disbelief, grieving and trying to cope with all that needs to be accomplished this week. These are the last picture of my mother that one sister took earlier in the afternoon.

My husband and I planned to meet my three sisters at our parents home on Sunday for a double celebration with our mother.  Our brother was unable to make it.  She had just turned 73 on Thursday, so we planned to celebrate both her birthday and mothers day Sunday afternoon. She had complained of some back pain that started the night before, but didn't seem too serious at the time.  She was so delighted with my handmade card, the gifts from my sisters.  She modeled a new outfit she received from one sister, and commented several times how wonderful it was that we were there.

As I was preparing lunch for everyone, my gift to her, my mother suddenly became ill, had severe pain in her abdomen, then quickly unresponsive.  I called 911, as my husband and two of my sisters got her onto the floor, I passed the phone to one sister and began CPR until Paramedics arrived.   My mother arrived at the hospital without a pulse and never regained consciousnesses.  She passed within two hours due to an abdominal aneurysm that had ruptured.

My mother was a tiny women, but had such strength when dealing with what life threw her way.  Growing up, our home was always filled with love and laughter.  Our house was the house in the neighborhood where friends always hang out.  Even though our family included our parents and 5 children, there was always room to feed one more.  Her family and friends meant everything to her.

My mother was a kind, giving and thoughtful person.  Ready with a smile and helping hand. She had taught each of us to stand up for what we believe, lend a helping hand and love each other no matter what.

I will miss her silliness, her smile, her advise, her warm hugs and her voice.  I feel blessed to have been there when she needed me, to give her CPR, to hold her hand and comfort her.  She left us too soon, but she was so happy and she was surrounded by her four daughters and my daddy beside her.

My oldest sister shared the following verse, which was on my mothers calender for Sunday, May 13, 2012

Proverbs 31:25-31
25She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with no fear of the future. 26 When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions. 27 She carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness. 28 Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 29 "There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!" 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. 31 Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Thank you for stopping by today and for letting me have a chance to write a tribute to my mother. I love her, I miss her and may she rest in peace.

My card today features a pink and kraft color combo, which is fun to work with.  I used a digi image from Bugaboo Stamps, colored her in with the following Copic markers.

E00, E02, E21, E33, E35, RV10, RV21, RV23

I used the following Cricut cartridges:  Just Because, page 42 <Truck-s> for the scallop edge cut at 5".  George and Basic shapes the cut the numbers and letters, cut at 1"

Layer all pieces together as shown in the photo, working back to front.  I trimmed the paper I used for the numbers with a square punch to make banners.  For the finishing touches, I added two flowers, layered and pink adhesive rhinestone to the center.  I also added same rhinestones to the banner and upper edge of pink paper.

Sketch-A-Thon at Colorful Creations

Happy Tuesday and thanks for stopping by today.  I have a layout to share with you that I created for Colorful Creations.  Colorful Creations is turning 2 and we are celebrating by having a month long Sketch-A-Thon.  Each day there will be new sketch and sample layout submitted by one of our Design Team members.  There will be a giveaway to the person who has submitted the most completed layouts, as well as other prizes from various Design Team members.

I will be giveaway a $15.00 Michael's gift card to one randomly drawn winner who has submitted a layout based on my sketches.  I will be submitting on 5/8 and 5/21.  I hope you have a chance to play along with us this month.

My sketch is one I came up with myself, at least I think so?  Anyway, please excuse my hand drawn sketch.  I am still learning how to use Photoshop Elements, so I decided to do a digital layout.  I do not have much digital choices at this time, but I am more of a clean and simple
scraper.  I hope you like the sketch and the layout. And that you may have a chance to play along with us this month.

Pinwheels and Spring

We had a very beautiful spring Monday, and the evening is equally as beautiful.  It's starting to finally feel like spring in my part of Washington state.  Warm Sunshine!

This week at The Cutting Cafe the Design Team will be sharing creations made with the Pinwheel sentiment template.  This set was so fun to work with, so head on over to the blog on Wednesday and check out all the sharing and inspiration that's going on.

My creation share today is a treat box that hangs over a door knob. Which I found in my stash of bags and boxes.  I had to extend the top slightly to fit the birthday goodies I tucked inside.  My papers were from Pebbles "Hip Hip Hooray".  I used the small pinwheel template, and two circle sentiments.  The "Happy Birthday" and "Enjoy Your Day".  I attached the pinwheels to Pixie Stix tubes, wrapped a candy bar in coordinating paper, filled a clear tube with mini chewy Sweet Tarts and tucked more Pixie Stix inside.

Finishing touches to my project were adding the banners with green brads, yellow curling ribbon and iridescent grass.

The door knob hanger box fits over a wine bottle as well.  Great for hostess gift, housewarming, etc...

I'm now running on a sugar overload, as I ate a few of the Pixie Stix and chewy Sweet Tarts.

Thanks for stopping by and remember to Catch the Frenzy!

Mother's Day

This week is my first challenge as a new Design Team member over at Made Especially for You and we have a weekly challenge for you today... Create a Mother's Day card using ribbon.  I used the Tulip Buggies image from our sponsor, Meljen's Designs for my card.

This week our randomly chosen winner will receive four (4) non-colored images of their choice from our sponsor Meljen's Designs.

My card is a 5" x 5-1/2" black card base.  I printed the digi image twice at 4" x 5" on white and colored both in with the following Copic Ciao markers:

G00, G02, G05, YR00, YR02, YR04, RV02, RV04, B00, B23, Y00, Y02, Y06, C-1, C-5

One image is for the card and the other one I used to cut out the bees, tulip, leaves, bird and two small flowers to mount on top on the one for the card.

I cut the scalloped green gingham paper from my Cricut "Just Because" Cards cartridge, page 52 <Truck-s> at 5-1/2" .  The green gingham corner is cut at 2-1/2".  The sentiments are both from Close to My Heart.  I stamped both with Memento Black Tuxedo ink on to tag and a 1-3/4" circle punch.  Layer all paper pieces as shown in the photo, working back to front.

Finishing touches adhesive pearls from Recollection, white polka dotted orange grosgrain ribbon, green safety pin and white gel pen for hi-lights on the tulip and leaves.

Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have a great week.

Love is like a Butterfly...

Front view
Today is my first post as a Design Team member for The Cutting Cafe and I am so excited to share my creation with you.  I used the Butterfly Shaped Card cutting file and a sentiment from the Social Butterfly printable stamp set.

My color palette is pink, white and black, which I just love together.

I started with a 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" pink cardstock base.  I cut the butterfly out three times:  white cardstock, pink pattern paper and vellum.  I sponged baby pink around the edges of the white butterfly and added black ink doodle lines around all 3 butterflies.  I layered these three butterflies together, white, pink pattern paper and vellum on top.  I cut a black cardstock body, wrapped black/white bakers twine around the body and added stamens for the antenna.  Adhere the body to the center of the butterfly.

Side view to show butterfly wing layers
I cut two scallop borders from black cardstock using my Cricut "Just Because" cartridge, page 46 <Apple-s> cut at 5-1/2", adhered to a piece of 2" x 5-1/2" pink pattern paper.

For the sentiment - I trimmed it and made one banner edge with a square punch.  Layer all paper pieces as shown in the photo, working back to front.

My finishing touches include black rhinestones, and baker twine ribbon/bow.

That's it for today, so thank you so much for stopping by my blog and letting me share my card with you.  Enjoy your day.
