Happy Birthday...

Before I start my post today, I want to give a Birthday Shout Out to my hubby Kurt...
"Happy Birthday Sweetie!"

It's  Digi Haven Challenge time.  This week is Challenge #4 Happy Birthday Digi Challenge.  Use any free digital birthday image you wish.  The image can be a forever freebie, limited time freebie or a freebie of the month, as long as it is free for the duration on the challenge.  Please be sure to link back to the original artist or website on your blog.  The challenge ends Thursday and the winner will be posted on Sunday.

I found this birthday cake HERE, colored it in with the Copic markers, added glossy accents to the dots, adhesive rhinestones and created a banner using this glittery birthday sentiment from some paper I had on hand.

I hope you'll have a chance to play along with us this week.  Check out the Design Team creations on the blog and link up your creation.

Enjoy your day and Catch the Frenzy! - Karen

    Get Whale Soon

This is sentiment is certainly meant for me.  I have been suffering through a horrible sinus infection for the past week and really want to feel well again soon.

My share today is for my DT card for the The Cutting Cafe and this week we are showcasing the Under the Sea printable stamp set.  I chose to use the cute Whale and sentiment "Get Whale Soon", mainly because I was sick and secretly wishing I would magically feel better after making my card and sending it to myself :)

I decided to make a quickie card using the whale, using a little sketch I made. I colored the whale with my Copic makers, still learning how they blend and trying the different techniques.  I am really hoping to treat myself to a birthday gift and take a Copic class in Oregon in the month of July.

Anyway, I used my Coluzzle circle template to cut this little whale out, layered ontop of midnight blue card, with two other pattern pattens in shades of blue. I thought the one paper would be fun to use as it had some stitching and a wave pattern that reminded me of water. (Paper from Close to My Heart).

Finishing touches, include yellow twine with the sentiment banner hanging from the bow and 3 blue buttons.

    Enjoy your day!

    Made Especially for You

Our weekly challenge at Made Especially For You, week four, create a card using a specific technique.

This week we are using the technique of heat embossing.
I haven't heat embossed for a really long time and only had a few powders on hand.
I fired up the old heat tool and I chose to work with white powder on kraft paper.

To complete my card I sponged around the edges, added a ribbon bow, and adhesive pearls.

Our wonderful sponsor this week is Adams Acres
One randomly chosen winner will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to their store.

Come on over to ME4Y and play along with us.
We would love to see your creation use heat embossing.

    Fishing you a...

Happy Fathers Day!  My dad does read my blog, so No daddy-o this is not your real card.  You'll have to wait until Sunday :)

Over at Fantabulous Cricut it is Challenge Me Monday. Challenge #115 - Fathers Day card/project using outdoor theme: hunting, hiking, fishing, etc....

For my Design Team card I used a 3-1/2" x 8" card for my base.  I started with a piece of Tan cardstock cut at 7" x 8", folded in half long side.

I added pattern paper from Glitz "Pretty in Pink" 6" x 6" pad. I cut the top piece 3-1/4" x 3-1/4", the strip piece cut at 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" and the black connecting piece was cut at 3/4" x 3-1/2".

I made the sentiment on the computer and cut the tag at 2" x 3-1/2" and trimmed the bottom with a square punch to make a banner.

My Cricut cut came from the "Just Because" Cards cartridge found on page 49, <Fishing> using the sticker feature cut at 3"

For the finishing touches I added brass buckle hardware which was attached with brass brads.  I tied a jute bow int he center.  I also added black adhesive rhinestones.

Have a Fantabulous Monday and remember to Catch the Frenzy!

Thursday Craft 'n Chat at ME4Y

The project I am sharing today for the Made Especially For You Thursday Craft 'n Chat is tags
Not just any tags, but tags using an interesting little embellishment
I was first introduced to this little embellishment by a fellow DT member at Colorful Creations
The first time I used this little embellishment was for a up-cycle project I made for a Blog Hop

It's the little pop top tab on a can of soup, vegetables or pop can
I had so much fun making a tag for the FCCB - "Save the Earth" Cricut Crawl in April
I received many positive reactions to my tag and clever use of the pop top tab
I hope you will be inspired to save those tabs and create a project of your own

A list of supplies needed to create my tag sample:

I used recycled cardboard for the base of my tag

I used a recycled checked shopping bag for my background paper
You can also use wrapping paper, bags, junk mail or other paper you have on hand

    You will also need:

Scissors, paper trimmer, 1-3/4" circle punch, small 1/2" circle punch and a tiny hole punch
Adhesive, medium glue dots, sponge dauber, distress ink, sentiment stamp
a die cut image and background for underneath ( mine is from Elegant Edges/Cricut cartridge)

    Embellishments:

Jute, pop top tab, 3 flowers, large brad, 3 tiny buttons, chipboard butterfly

Trim your cardboard base to 3-1/2" x 6-1/2", as well as the background paper
Punch out a coordinating piece of cardstock using the 1-3/4" circle punch - cut in half
Cut a small 1/2" circle out of coordinating cardstock, to cover the lower part of the tab

Adhere the background paper to the cardboard
Adhere the large half circle to the top center of the tag
Using a glue dot, adhere the 1/2" circle into the lower part of the tab
This step is to cover the ragged edges of the tab
Using the tiny hole punch, punch through the layers on the tab and cardboard
Attach a large brad to the center of the tab

Using the sponge dauber and distress ink, sponge around the edges, stamp the sentiment
I also used the edge of the ink pad and lightly pressed onto the oval for some distress lines
Adhere the front and back of the die cut together

Adhere the die cut onto the tag and add the embellishments as shown in the photo

I hope you enjoyed today's project
    and
have been inspired to use this unique embellishment on your next project

Scroll down for a few more samples

    Thanks for reading my tutorial
